Wayseer

Install Wayseer.

One program with every source built in, and the library that opens the window. Nothing else to install, no account, no server.

  1. Download the package for your platform from the table, and install it: Linux, macOS or Windows.
  2. Open the demo world: wayseer --demo. It is a made-up company of 400 hosts and 120 services, built into the app, with nothing to download or connect. It leaves your own config alone and forgets everything when you quit.
  3. Then 1–8 or the bar across the top switch lenses, click an entity to focus it, Ctrl+K (⌘K on a Mac) finds anything, F1 hides the hints, Shift+F1 shows the tour, Ctrl+Q quits.
  4. Your own systems: run wayseer with no flags. It writes a default config, with every option described in comments, and opens on this machine. Add a Prometheus, Proxmox VE, Kubernetes, SQL or file source and save (Kubernetes and SQL need a license key): the app reloads the config while it runs. Secrets are named, never stored: a file, an environment variable or the system keyring.

What's new in 0.28.1
  • wayseer --demo opens the demo world, a made-up company of 400 hosts and 120 services, with nothing to download, no key and no network. It leaves your own config alone and forgets everything when you quit.
  • wayseer --help ends with where to report a problem or ask for a feature.
  • The end-user license is now version 2026-10-05: a subscription renews each year at the price first paid for it, until you cancel.

The AppImage, tarball and Windows zip update themselves when you ask: Wayseer downloads the newer release, checks its signature, installs it only when you press Y, and keeps the one it replaced so you can undo it. A copy a package manager installed is left to it.

Packages
LinuxAppImage, tarball or Flatpak, x86-64, or the Nix package. About 20 MB. The primary platform.
macOS 13+One app for Apple silicon and Intel. About 39 MB. untested on a Mac so far
Windows 10/11An installer or a portable zip, x86-64. About 20 MB. untested on Windows so far
License

Linux: any distribution since 2020.

Debian 11, Ubuntu 20.04, Fedora 32 and everything since with glibc 2.31 or newer. On NixOS, use the Nix package or the Flatpak, both tried there: the AppImage and tarball start, but can't find its graphics libraries by themselves. Without glibc, as on Alpine, use the Flatpak, which brings its own and is tried on Alpine too. Each package brings its own copy of SDL3, the library that opens the window and draws, so the machine needs only what a desktop already has: a Vulkan driver (Mesa, or your GPU vendor's) and the Wayland or X11 libraries.

Which one
AppImageOne file to download and run, with nothing installed and no menu entry.
TarballWayseer in your application menu, under ~/.local or /opt.
FlatpakWayseer in a sandbox, on nearly any Linux. It sees only the files you let it, and doesn't update itself.
NixOn Nix or NixOS, installed and updated with the rest of your system. From 0.27.2, tried on NixOS.

The AppImage and tarball are signed, and check the signature of each update they install. Check the Flatpak against the SHA256SUMS file beside it in the downloads: sha256sum -c --ignore-missing SHA256SUMS.

AppImage

chmod +x wayseer-*-x86_64.AppImage
./wayseer-*-x86_64.AppImage

It mounts itself with FUSE, which most desktops have (the fuse3 package). Without it, add --appimage-extract-and-run. Flags go after the file name.

Tarball

tar -xzf wayseer-*-linux-x86_64.tar.gz -C ~/.local --strip-components=1

It is laid out like /usr, so it unpacks straight into a prefix: wayseer lands in ~/.local/bin, with a menu entry and its icon. To remove it, delete ~/.local/bin/wayseer, ~/.local/lib/wayseer/, and the wayseer files under ~/.local/share.

Flatpak

flatpak install --user wayseer-*-x86_64.flatpak
flatpak run org.wayseer.Wayseer

Installing it fetches the Freedesktop runtime from Flathub. To update, install the newer file with --reinstall. Its config lives in ~/.var/app/org.wayseer.Wayseer/config/wayseer/, and it reads other files only once you allow them, such as flatpak override --user --filesystem=~/.kube:ro org.wayseer.Wayseer.

Nix

nix run github:wayseer-net/desktop-nix

It installs the signed tarball unchanged. On NixOS, add github:wayseer-net/desktop-nix to your inputs, include its nixosModules.default, and set programs.wayseer.enable = true;. Its README shows the whole configuration. It updates through Nix, never by itself.

macOS: drag it to Applications. untested on a Mac so far

macOS 13 Ventura or later, one app for both chips.

  1. Open the zip. Finder unpacks Wayseer.app beside it.
  2. Drag Wayseer.app into Applications, and open it from there or Launchpad.

It needs no permission from System Settings to show this Mac: its CPUs, memory, filesystems, network interfaces and processes. From 0.28.0, >updates.install downloads the newer app and checks its signature, and Y shows it in Finder: quit Wayseer and drag it over the old one. A 0.27 copy only says a newer release is out, so download 0.28.0 from the table once. To remove it, drag it to the Trash; its config and state stay in ~/Library/Application Support/Wayseer/ until you delete that too.

The first time it opens

Until the app is signed with a Developer ID, macOS asks once before it opens.

macOS 15+Open it, choose Done, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway beside Wayseer.
macOS 13, 14Control-click the app in Finder, choose Open, then Open again.

From Terminal

/Applications/Wayseer.app/Contents/MacOS/wayseer --config my.yaml

Windows: installed for everyone, or run from a folder. untested on Windows so far

Windows 10 and 11, x86-64.

InstallerThe .msi installs into C:\Program Files\Wayseer\ and adds Wayseer to the Start menu, with an administrator's approval. A newer installer replaces the older version. Remove it in Settings → Apps.
Portable zipExtract it anywhere and open wayseer.exe. Keep the files together: it finds SDL3.dll beside it. Remove it by deleting the folder.

A first run opens on this PC: its CPUs, memory, drives, network interfaces, processes and services, each service linked to its process and its dependencies. A config written by 0.27 keeps that entry commented out; remove the # before its two lines.

The first time it opens

Until the packages carry a code-signing certificate, Windows shows Windows protected your PC once. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

From a terminal

& "C:\Program Files\Wayseer\wayseer.exe" --help

It opens no console of its own, so the prompt comes back at once and its output follows.

What it asks of the machine.

GraphicsA Vulkan, Metal or Direct3D driver. Designed for a well-performing integrated GPU (Intel Xe or AMD RDNA class); a discrete GPU is never required. effects: low for weaker chips.
MemoryAims to stay under memory_limit, default 1280 MiB, which holds about 250,000 entities with their history.
NetworkNone required. It talks to the sources your config names, and once a day fetches a public, signed list of withdrawn modules and new releases, the same file for everyone, sent with no identifier; your config can turn that off. It sends no telemetry, and checks a license key without a network.
StartThe first frame in about 50 ms on the reference laptop, about 100 ms in power-saving mode.

Where files live

Where each platform keeps its own apps' files. wayseer --help shows the full paths on your machine.

ConfigLinux~/.config/wayseer/macOS~/Library/Application Support/Wayseer/Windows%APPDATA%\Wayseer\

State holds bookmarks, the sources you turned off, and a license key once you add one. The logs record every question asked of a language model and every action run.
